NDMC participates in climate resilience symposium 
In February, more than 100 people participated in the Climate Resilient Communities Symposium, held at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln East Campus Union. Speakers and participants shared local and personal effects of climate change, while discussing ways to become more resilient to future climate events.  

The symposium involved numerous NDMC staff, including Tonya Bernadt, Lindsay Johnson and Deb Bathke. Read more in Nebraska Today

National Climate Assessment authors share key findings 
Tonya Haigh, NDMC research assistant professor and social science coordinator, was featured on a recent Daugherty Water for Food Podcast episode about the Fifth National Climate Assessment.

Released by the Biden administration on Nov. 14, 2023, the report is published every four years and provides insight into current and future impacts of climate change in the U.S. Haigh is one of the co-authors of the assessment’s Northern Great Plains section.

New paper investigates land use and land cover changes  
A paper by NDMC GIS specialist Hasnat Aslam was published in Environmental Earth Sciences. This study analyzes the “heat island” phenomenon resulting from urban growth and vegetation change over the past 30 years in the Punjab province of Pakistan.

Webinar on precipitation changes in the Northeastern U.S. now available 
NDMC climatologists Lindsay Johnson and Curtis Riganti presented "Changing Characteristics of Precipitation and Drought in the Northeastern U.S." on a live webinar on Feb. 21. The event was hosted by the Northeast Climate Hub. Watch the webinar.
